There were Tigers and Dragons last Thursday at Comerica Park.
Let’s just say that Chief Jerry Narsh and crew, and Golling Buick GMC General Manager Jerry Cooper had their hands full.
About 30 Orion Township kids, and a couple of their friends, had the opportunity to ride the Fox Sports Fan Express to the Tigers Game last week after the local car dealership invited them to hop aboard, VIP style.
Golling Buick GMC had purchased the day event, including a luxury ride and tickets to the Detroit Tigers versus L.A. Angels game, from the local charity group called Buttons.
‘Once we purchased it we tried to figure out where we would use it best, and no better place than to take a bunch of kids to the ball game,? Cooper said.
Cooper reached out to the LOPD, who then gathered a bunch of the same kids who participated at Shop with a Hero last Christmas.
Shop with a Hero is also a charity event that invites local children to go holiday shopping with their local officers, children who don’t get to go shopping often.
‘This is our home, this is where we are, and we wanted to support this guy over here, Cooper said, nudging Narsh. ‘He does so many great things for these kids. There’s so much focus on downtown Detroit. We have problems out here too.?
Each kid also got a meal from the Lake Orion McDonalds they scarfed while riding down to Comerica Park.
Everyone was branded with an LOPD badge sticker, to keep the herd of Dragons accounted for, and watched the Angels beat the Tigers 2-0 (which was a bummer after Justin Verlander threw a near no-hitter the night before.
‘A lot of segments of the community came together to make this happen,? Narsh said. ‘This was unique, this was cool, and it’s just a great way to bring the community together one more time.?
