If you’ve driven past the Addison Township Hall lately, you might have noticed construction crews working outside and inside the building as the renovation and addition project progress.
According to Project Superintedent Tim Stachura, of Frank Rewold and son, Inc., the project is ‘pretty much on schedule.?
So far, they have done rough-in on all the exterior walls, built all the metal stud-walls on the inside, put up new truss-roofs and sheathing over the old flat roofs and new flat roofs where the addition is.
‘Right now, we’re getting ready to do the roof (this) week,? Stachura said. ‘We should be doing the siding after that (and) drywall should be starting at the end of (this) week and then, we’ll start doing all the entire interior finishes.?
He is hoping to have the first phase in the next two months. This will include having all township employees moved into the new offices by the end of November. The second phase will be the demolition of the current offices.
‘We’re hoping to have the majority of it wrapped up by the end of the year, weather permitting that is,? Stachura said. ‘But some of it may have to wait until spring, such as the completion of the parking lot and the landscaping.?
‘I’m proud of how things have come along and we’ve had a great crew to work with,? he added.
Township Supervisor Bruce Pearson is happy to announce that the township is still under budget with regard to the project.
‘We authorized $2.4 million and right now, we’re right around $1.7 million and we’ve added a lot of extras,? he said ‘Things that come up that you realize you need, like security cameras. However, half of that will be paid (for by) the insurance company.?
He noted they also had a special generator put in that will run the entire town-hall hall should it lose power.
‘In case of an emergency, we’re considered an emergency center,? Pearson explained. ‘Now, we can have people stay here and have it be air-conditioned or heated (depending on the season) and there will be running water and bathrooms.?
Part of what allowed them to get some of the extras, while keeping things under budget, was that they received some very kind donations, which included the roof, quite a bit of used furniture from neighboring Oakland Township and a meeting table from Oxford Township. The new parking lot is being donated as well. Pearson said they also received a kind donation so they can hold a ‘grand opening? for the public to come in and check out the new hall when it’s done.
‘It’s going to be very functional and it’s going to be great. It was done with the people in mind (who) don’t want to spend money unnecessarily. So, we did it by combining the old with the new and I think they’re going to be extremely happy with it,? he said. ‘You very rarely hear (about) any government project (coming) in under budget, but this one I think is going to be well under budget.?
