After going undefeated 6-0 over the weekend at the Lutheran North West Tournament, the Lady Cat Spikers brought home the Gold Championship trophy.
‘I was ecstatic and the girls demonstrated great teamwork and played to their full potential as a team,? said Head Coach LaToria Thomas. ‘They worked hard and had fun doing it and I was very proud of them. It was well-deserved.?
Top scorers for the day included Nicole Elzerman with 39 kills; Marie Matheis, 12 kills; Paige Briggs, 18 kills; Elle Wright,10 kills; Grace Wysocki, 23 kills; Lisa Savich, 6 kills (due? to illness only played in 2 games); Hailey Hartwick, 36 digs; Alexa Igram, 16 digs; and Amanda Schlicht, 85 assists.
Earlier in the week, the girls lost to Seaholm making them 0-2 in league play. The first game was a hard fought one with a 21-25 loss.
‘We started slow, but were able to pick up the momentum and energy and make some key plays. Seaholm was a huge team offensively and put up great blocks,? Thomas said. ‘We struggled to slow down their right-side hitter and middle hitter, ultimately losing a very well-played game.?
The loss to Seaholm made Thomas even more impressed with her girls when they went undefeated on Saturday.
‘They showed they can come back from a devastating loss and refocus and come back pedal-to-the-metal,? she said. ‘It was a great effort and I’m so happy for us.?
The girls entered play this week with a 20-10-2 record.
Their next match will be Thursday, Oct. 1 on the road against Rochester Adams before coming home to face OAA rival Lake Orion on Oct. 6. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
