On Wednesday, Sept. 23 Oxford Village Police Officer Sean Brown attended the Lifesavers Award Luncheon for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at the Walter Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills.
There, he received the ‘Outstanding Rookie? Award.
‘The outstanding rookie award kind of caught me off guard,? Brown said. ‘They made me go up there and take the award and I looked in a mirror and realized I forgot to shave. I looked at the chief (Mike Neymanowski) and he says ‘I didn’t know anything about that…? It’s an honor.?
Brown was nominated by Neymanowski for his outstanding performance in the area of traffic safety and alcohol enforcement during 2014.
‘As a first-year, part-time officer, he took a leadership role and addressed 2,200 traffic violations with 24 alcohol-related arrests, which led the agency,? Neymanowksi wrote in his nomination. ‘His enforcement determination has made many citizens aware that the Village of Oxford does not tolerate drinking and driving. In addition to his exceptional dedication to traffic enforcement, he has successfully contributed to the agency’s effort (regarding) traffic safety.?
Brown said he’s proud of his 24 alcohol-related arrests with a 100 percent conviction rate.
‘It’s a pretty big deal getting intoxicated drivers off the roads, so they don’t hurt themselves or anybody else for that matter,? he added. ‘My training from the Oakland Training Academy and Oxford Police Department has been great. The chief and Sgt. Mike Solwold support everything I do.?
