The Wildcat Booters added two more to the win column last week, bringing their overall record to 8-2-6 and their OAA White record to 4-1-4.
The Wildcats kicked off their week with a 2-0 win over the Royal Oak Ravens.
‘The boys played a fantastic game against Royal Oak and were rarely threatened.? We controlled much of the possession and had a lot of good runs of play,? said Oxford’s Head Coach John Thaler. ‘I was very pleased with their play and everyone earned my highest praise.?
While they had several chances to score in the first half, they couldn’t convert and headed into half-time scoreless, but the Cats came back livelier and ready to put some balls in the back of the net.
Oxford got on the board on a Jonathan Carrera shot that beat the keeper from a fine flick by fellow junior and Captain Nick Wright. The Wildcats came close again hitting the crossbar and post on two separate shots. Wright finished off the game with a great one timed shot off a long throw from senior captain Greg Knox to go up 2 -0. Senior Captain Goaltender Connor Bandel, only had to make one save the entire game, which came in didn’t come until the last 10 minutes of play.
The boys headed into Saturday’s match-up against Avondale, fired up and ready to play. The Cats took control right from the start, pounding three goals in before the end of the first half and never looked back.
Scoring for Oxford was junior captain Nick Wright, who had two goals on the day and an assist, and sophomore Jacob Sharpe, who scored a goal.
Bandel had two saves on the day to earn another shutout in goal.?
‘On Saturday, we, again, played an almost perfect game. We handled Avondale quite well and never really allowed them in the game,? Thaler said. ‘Nick Wright had an outstanding game . . . We were on the receiving end of some physical play, but we let our class outshine their style of play.?
The boys will play their final game of the season at home on Thursday, Oct. 15 against Fenton. Game time is 7 p.m.
