Powered by two top-10 performances, the Brandon girls cross country team earned a fourth-place finish at the Linden Invitational Sept. 20.
The Blackhawks finished behind Flint Powers, Perry and St. Clair in the meet, while outdistancing Flint Metro League rivals Linden (by seven points) and Fenton (by nine points).
“It was nice to match up against Fenton and Linden,” Brandon coach Rod Yeacker said. “The league is competitive and it’s shaping up like one of the league schools is going to win the final regional spot for the state finals.”
Kayla Doan led the Blackhawks with a 5th place finish at the invite, finishing with a time of 20:50. Her performance also earned her fifth place on Brandon’s all-time cross-country performance list.
“The field was fast today,” Doan said. “I must have passed 20 people after the one-mile mark because they went out too fast.”
Like Doan, Kelsey Carmean also earned a spot in Brandon’s record books, finishing sixth at the meet (20:53), which placed her sixth overall on the BHS all-time list.
Jackie Back also medaled for the Blackhawks at the invite, finishing 18th (21:55).
Brandon returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 1 when they travel to Fenton.
