Independence Township resident Sam Moraco is excited to have some input in his community. Moraco was recently named to the Independence Township Planning Commission by the township board.
“I thought this was a good spot to be at to get in at the ground level. This is the first stop in what will be built around us,” Moraco said.
After hearing about the opening through the building department, Moraco submitted a resume and cover letter. After a couple of interviews, Supervisor Dale Stuart called to tell him the board had approved his hiring.
Moraco brings a building background to the Planning Commission with his experience owning Muraca Building Company.
Muraca has been responsible for the construction of more than 100 new homes in Independence Township including Spring Lake, Sheringham, Brookstone and Sashabaw Creek, which is currently under construction.
“I am involved personally from the blueprint review to the final walk-through with builders and homebuyers,” Moraco said. “By remodeling, restoration and new construction, I have a working knowledge of land development.”
He was not all that surprised when he was called with the news.
“I am not sure how many resumes they received but I thought I had as good a shot as anybody,” Moraco said. “Nobody on the Planning Commission has a building background and I think that was something they were looking for. They say they want a diverse group so that probably helped me a little.”
Moraco has been a resident of the township for seven years.
“Mr. Moraco’s experience should prove an asset to the deliberations of the Planning Commission,” Stuart said.
Moraco fills the remaining term of B. Jill Palulian that expires on December 31, 2004. The board also approved extending the terms of Cheryl Karrick, Kathryn Caruso and William Kessler be extended to December 31, 2006.
