Board opposes liquor license for business near school

The Orion Township Board of Trustees will be sending notice of its opposition to the issuance of a new Specially Designated Merchant liquor license to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
The request for a new SDM license is for the Don Pietras of the DMJ Corporation, for an establishment to be located at the southeast corner of Baldwin and Clarkston Roads. A SDM license permits the sale of beer and wine for consumption off premises only.
Board members are against issuing the license, due to the close proximity of Friendship Park and Webber Elementary School, and the number of SDM licenses already issued for the area.
