Oakland Township residents gathered on Sept. 27 for the re-opening celebration of Bear Creek Nature Park, a 107-acre park between Snell and Gunn Roads.
The site is where Oakland Township has constructed its first recreation facilities. The newly re-opened park features ADA accessible limestone trails, wooden boardwalks, docks and overlooks in wetland areas, interpretive signage, a picnic pavilion, children’s playground, gravel parking lot and restroom facilities.
This improvement project was financed by a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant and matching township park millage funds.
Participants at the grand re-opening celebration enjoyed muffins, bagels and coffee compliments of Ah!Moore’. Children created crafts with Dinosaur Hill, received piggy banks and coloring books from Flagstar Bank, and enjoyed balloon art, face painting and paper creations with Kooky Karly.
There was also an inflatable obstacle course to play on from Oakland County Parks, and playing on the new playground.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony with state senator Michael Bishop, township supervisor Susan Hoffman and parks and recreation commissioners, attendees enjoyed cake donated by Kroger.
