Virginia Beach – Charles ‘Chuck’ Owen, 92, entered into eternal peace on Friday, August 19, 2016 at The Memory Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
Chuck was born on July 31, 1924 in Ortonville, MI. He graduated from Michigan State University, served in the US Marine Corp., and retired from DuPont Company as the GM for the General Motors account in Farmington Hills, MI.
As a member of the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, Chuck enjoyed volunteering his services at the Potter’s House Bicycle Ministry. He first retired on Skidaway Island, GA, where he was an active member of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. His numerous volunteer efforts included Bible studies conducted at the Bethesda Home for Boys and The Chatham County Jail Ministry. He also dedicated himself to the Dave Scott Blue Bird Trail, on Skidaway, building and growing it to become the largest monitored blue bird trail east of the Mississippi and possibly the entire country. There are now 200 houses. Chuck was a leader in his involvement with the Kiwanis Club, (The Golden K), of Skidaway Island where he served as Lieutenant Governor of Georgia’s Southeastern district. He was a passionate golfer.
Chuck is survived by his wife Shirley Ezzell Owen of VA Beach; Chuck’s daughters Penrhyn (George) Olsen, Lynne Owen, Jacklyn (Jim) Martin, Leslie Lampinen and Shirley’s daughters Sheryl (Mike) Evans, Shelly (Steven) Hall, Shannon (Michael) Salter, Shawn Hall-Lecuona; 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to The Memory Center of Virginia Beach and to Interim Hospice Care of VA Beach, for their support and care.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Ortonville United Methodist Church, Ortonville, MI. The burial will take place at the Ortonville Cemetery and following the burial a reception will be held back at the Ortonville United Methodist Church. Remembrances can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter.
