The Brandon boys cross country team finished its 2003 campaign with a seventh-place finish at the Division 2 regional Oct. 25.
The Blackhawks were one of 13 teams at the meet, which was held at Goodells County Farm Park and hosted by Marysville High School. Brandon finished with 214 points.
Flint Powers won the meet with 27 points, while Fenton took second (73) and Croswell-Lexington third (95). All three teams advanced to the state meet Nov. 1.
Sophomore Trevor DeWitt paced the Blackhawks, finishing 26th with a time of 17:59, his career best time and the 11th fastest sophomore time in Brandon history.
Junior Brad Lawrence followed by finishing 36th in a time of 18:22, while junior Chris Holton took 38th. His time of 18:25 was his career best. In addition, freshman Adam George also ran a career best time, although he did not finish among Brandon’s top seven.
Other Brandon placers were: Steve Sanday (50th, 19:01), Dylan Kent (64th, 19:46), Jared Blunk (70th, 20:25) and Kyle Jackson (72nd, 20:38).
Brandon coach Gary Medland said the team made a significant amount of progress this season. ‘I was quite pleased with what we did this year,? he said. ‘As far as I’m concerned, we had a successful year.?
Medland said the Blackhawks, who had no seniors among their top eight runners, gained a great deal of experience this year. He also said he is ‘very optimistic? about next year.
‘I think the boys have seen what they’re capable of and how to get to the next level,? he said.
