Goodrich ? Everything from dulcimers to foreign movies will soon become part of the Goodrich education program, thanks to grants from the Goodrich Educational Foundation.
The Goodrich Board of Education recently approved a total of $3,156.79 in grants to be awarded for ‘extra? school needs.
The foundation evaluates grant requests at least annually, said Goodrich Schools Superintendent Raymond Green, choosing the projects which would repeatedly benefit the most students. Grant amounts are typically in the $300 to $500 range.
Grant awards include $250 for a calculator-based laboratory at the high school, requested by Michelle Bell; $349.79 for high school art class cast models and mirrors, requested by Kay Goodall; $425 to cover the cost of foreign films, speakers, posters and music CDs for a high school Foreign Language Festival, requested by Doug Wilson and Sarah Schiller; $260 for middle school yearbook cameras, requested by Mary Kathryn Turner; $400 for novel sets to be used in the middle school language arts program; $472 for a student dulcimer kit to be used in the elementary school music program, requested by Kelley Brill; $600 for an art and reading program for Reid Elementary School students, requested by Cheryl Matthews; and $400 for a bench for the Reid site requested by the playground committee.
Both Goodrich school staff and board of education members contribute to the Goodrich Educational Foundation to fund requests, said Green.
