Rush hour traffic back-ups at the traffic lights at M-24 and Atwater Street and also the light at M-24 and Clarkston Road aren’t the fault of the lights’ timing, according to traffic engineers for the Road Commission for Oakland County.
RCOC Public Information Officer Craig Bryson said although the RCOC only oversees the lights on behalf of the Michigan Department of Transportation, who decides the timing of the lights, RCOC traffic engineers have looked into the issue.
“They believe the timing of the lights is fine,” Bryson said. “It’s a problem of too much traffic and not enough road.”
Bryson said there are no plans to re-time the lights in the near future.
