The Brandon boys basketball team seemed to pick up steam as their Dec. 16 game against visiting Fenton progressed.
In the end, several Blackhawks contributed to their 62-38 win against the Tigers, which improved Brandon’s season mark to 2-1.
The Blackhawks and Tigers started off slowly, as Brandon took a 9-4 lead at the end of the first period. However, the offense picked up for both teams in the second quarter. Brandon utilized the three-point shot often in the second, and maintained a 24-19 lead at the half.
Brandon started to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 16-7 to take a 40-26 lead after that period, and didn’t look back .
‘We made a couple adjustments at halftime,? Brandon coach Denny Butcher said. ‘We gave up a couple of second chance shots in the first half.?
Joe Turcsak led the charge for the Blackhawks with 16 points, while Nate Perry showed his three-point range, connected on three shots from long distance on his way to 11 points. Derek Foyt and Tom Schaefer added nine apiece.
The Blackhawks suffered their first loss of the season Dec. 13 against Auburn Hills Avondale, dropping a 76-53 contest.
Avondale took command of the game from the onset, outscoring the Blackhawks 29-12 in the first quarter and never looking back. Turcsak led the Blackhawks with 15 points, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line, while Perry added nine.
The Blackhawks will take time off for the holiday break before returning to action Jan. 6 against Lakeland.
