New computer connection in Oxford

Imagine being lost in a foreign country where you don’t speak a word of the language. Such an experience would be frightening and frustrating for the average person.
That’s the way many of us who are technologically-impaired feel when we attempt to navigate our way through the complex world of computers.
But it doesn’t have to be that way, especially now that Zak Computers is open for business in Oxford.
Located at 172 S. Washington St. in the Oxford Marketplace, Zak Computers is owned by Lakeville resident Jim Matczak, who began his computer business 13 years and has another location in Macomb Twp. at 21 Mile and Garfield.
He opened a store in Oxford because it ‘seems like a booming area.?
‘There are a lot of people and no computer stores out here,? Matczak said.
Zak Computers specializes in repairs, upgrades, adding memory, virus cleaning and ‘building new systems from scratch.?
Rather than buy a computer off the shelf and pay extra for a lot of ‘bells and whistles? customers neither need nor want, Matczak said ‘we can custom build a machine tailored to meet someone’s needs,? whether it’s mainly for ‘browsing the Internet? or ‘doing a lot of digital camera work? or playing games.
Zak Computers also makes house calls by offering on-site service to homes and businesses, the same or next day.
‘We can have the problem fixed within a couple of hours,? Matczak said.
For those adventurous types, Zak Computers also sells build-it-yourself computer kits and parts to upgrade your old machine yourself.
‘It’s always cheaper for people to do it themselves than have us do it,? Matczak said. ‘A lot of people are scared of it, but it’s really not that difficult.?
With Zak Computers? ‘friendly staff,? customers who are not tech savvy don’t have to be afraid to ask questions or seek help. ‘We try to talk to people on a level they can understand,? Matczak said. ‘We try not to talk over people’s heads and come off like a bunch of computer geeks who just can’t relate to people.?
‘We want to take the scariness out of computer service,? he added.
On the retail side of the business, Zak Computers offers a variety of printers, monitors, keyboards, mice, CD-roms, hard drives, mother-boards, memory sticks, etc.
‘We carry a lot of hard-to-find parts,? Matczak said. ‘A lot of stuff that would normally require a special order, we carry in stock? such as ‘network chips for laptops.?
If the store doesn’t have it, ‘we can special order anything,? he added.
For those seeking an alternative to America On-line, Zak Computers offers local, dial-up Internet access with lower rates and more personalized customer service. Matczak said his company provides Internet service to ‘thousands? of customers across Michigan and into Ohio.
Zak Computer’s Oxford location is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m. For more information call 628-8600 or log on to www.zakpc.com.
