Imlay City— The Martians are on a mission to a state title that just passed through Imlay City.
On March 15, the Goodrich Martians Varsity Boys (22-4) basketball team defeated Crosswell-Lexington (22-4) 56-39 for the Division 2 regional final at Imlay City High School. It was the Martians first Regional title since 2014.
The Martians were up 18-17 at halftime then rallied for 38 points in the second half, holding the Pioneers to just 22 points.
After the game, veteran Martian Head Coach Gary Barns said the team continues to find a way to win.
“We’ve had 15 different starting lineups this season,” said Barns, emphasizing the teams 3.75 gpa. “They never get too up or too down. We celebrated on the bus going home, but Thursday’s practice is business as usual. Ferndale will be tough but, we’ll be ready and play hard.”
