Lady Martians dominate Flint Metro League Cross Country Jamboree

Lake Fenton — The Goodrich Martians girls cross country team dominated the Flint Metro League Jamboree by placing eight of the top 20 finishers at Lake Fenton High School on Sept. 6. The Goodrich girls earned first place with just 22 points, Owosso was second (71), while Linden was third (80), Fenton fourth (110) and Brandon 12th.
“The Goodrich Girls are definitely one of the best teams in the state,” said Carter Lauinger, assistant Martian coach. “We have ran in four races this season so far and won all four of them. Our first and second races were the Evan Gardner XC Invitational and the Corunna Early bird Invitational with our girls scoring two perfect scores of 15 points. We recently just ran at the Northwood Invite we took first place with a score of 50 and had five girls in the top 20.”
GHS Junior Kamryn Lauinger won the race with 20:03.29 followed by teammate GHS Junior Layla Jordan 20:13.02, Fenton Senior Nina Frost 20:20.93 and GHS Freshman Baylor Lauinger 20:50.09.
Brandon High School Girls finished 12th with 317 points. BHS Junior Sadie Scribner was 59th with 25:55.26, BHS Junior Danielle St. James was 61st at 26:00.25.
The Clio Boys finished first with 57 points, followed by Flint Kearsley 77, Holly 122 and the Goodrich Boys finished fourth with 142 GHS Sophomore Vincent Pattison led the way for the Goodrich boys with a fifth place finish 17:15.43 and GHS Junior Cole Winter rounded out the top 10 with a 17:53.95.
The Brandon Boys finished 10th with 218 points. BHS Senior Josh Oswald was 33rd 19:25.99, 34th BHS Soph. Jacob Hylton 19:27.65 and 35th BHS Soph. Nick Grycza 19:28.79.
