Goodrich — On Jan. 16, a well-known and respected parent and coach within the Goodrich community passed away unexpectedly at Oaktree Elementary School in Goodrich.
Kres Washington, 50, was volunteering during the day at the school as part of the “Watchdog” program which brings positive male role models into the buildings. Kres was working with students in the media center when he collapsed. First responders and medical emergency staff responded but were unable to revive him.
“Kres Washington’s impact on our lives was immeasurable,” said Mike Baszler, district superintendent. “Whether you knew him through youth sports, community events, or personal connections, Kres had a unique ability to leave everyone feeling better than they did before. His infectious positivity and radiant smile was his trademark, making each interaction a memorable experience.”
Kres, was a volunteer coach for the Goodrich boys basketball team and a well-known individual in the community.
“He left a mark on the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known him,” said Baszler. “Affectionately known as “Kres,” he embodied the spirit of positivity, love, and unwavering support for family, friends, and community.”
A dedicated family man, Kres is survived by his loving wife Tara and their three beautiful children, Miles, Raegan, and Grant.
“His passion for family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his role as a father stood out as a shining example of love, kindness, and support,” he said.
On Jan. 24, 2024 a funeral was held at The River Church, 9430 Perry Road, Goodrich. Over 700 attendees paid tribute to Kres and offered their support for his family. The Washington family expressed their gratitude to family, friends and the Goodrich community for their support during this difficult time.
