Goodrich — On May 15 with breezy conditions and summer temperatures, the Goodrich Martian Varsity Baseball team split a pair from the Owosso Trojans at Goodrich. The Martians are 22-7-1 overall.
In the first game GHS Thomas Niles shut out the Trojans on just two hits and eight strikeouts. GHS Zaiden Hall barreled up a clutch two run double in the fifth inning with two outs for the 3-0 win.
In the nightcap the Martians committed four errors as the bats slowed down to just two hits in the 4-2 loss.
“It was a tough series and a tough day hitting against the wind,” said Head Coach Ben Almasy. “We didn’t play well in game three with the errors, but overall it’s a good series win. Thomas Niles seems to be getting better with every outing on the mound. It was a great conference season for us at 12-3.”
The doubleheader split followed a 5-2 win on May 13 at Owosso where GHS Gavin Dunn pitched six scoreless innings giving up four hits and fanning 11 Trojan hitters. GHS Cross Darby came in for the save. Darby provided the offensive with a homerun and GHS Carson Raether doubled in two.
