Hamilton — On June 1, Goodrich High School Junior Layla Jordan won the state title and reset her previous school record at the Division 2 Michigan High School Athletic Association State Championship at Hamilton High School in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.92.
Jordan also topped the previous state D2 record in 800 meters set in 2006 by Ramzee Fondren of 2:11.08.
On June 10, 2023, Jordan reset her own 800 meter school record with a time of 2:13.71 at the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association, Michigan Champions of Champions Track and Field meet at Davison High School. The day before, on June 9, 2023 Jordan also set a school record in the 400 meters of 58.35, at the same MITCA, Michigan Champions of Champions Track and Field meet. The old Goodrich High School record was 58.8 set in 2022 by Olivia Giza.
GHS Junior Kamryn Lauinger also had a record setting state meet.
Lauinger finished eighth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:02.06, a personal record. She also finished fourth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:55.27.
