Goodrich — At 8:49 a.m., July 8 the Atlas Township Fire Department was dispatched for trash in a garbage truck on fire in the 7000 block of S. State Road in Goodrich.
Upon their arrival the garbage truck had emptied its contents in a business parking lot to keep the truck from catching on fire.
Ed Klimek, ATFD assistant fire chief said emptying the smoking contents of a garbage truck is normal protocol for these types of incidents.
“The Atlas Township firefighters then extinguished the fire,” said Klimek. “No cause was determined; however, this is a good reminder for everyone to make sure you fully extinguish and cool down anything that may cause heat or ignitions such as cigarettes, matches and discarded fireworks.”
There were no injuries.
