Folks around Clarkston may be hoping for snow later this month, but it’ll be a green Christmas for those who turn out Saturday at Church of the Resurrection.
The Clarkston Farm and Garden Club will host its annual Greens Market at the church from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 6, offering wreaths in three sizes, and roping in 25 and 50-foot lengths.
Fresh evergreen arrangements’embellished with holiday ribbon, candles, bulbs or other adornments’are also available, and come in sizes and styles suitable for both home and business.
‘Come early,? said Garden Club spokesperson Sue Sajdak. ‘Our arrangements always go fast.?
Small gift items, potpourri, kissing balls, and loose fresh greens also await shoppers, and, to commemorate the 17th annual market, a special table will be stocked with a variety of items priced at $17 or less.
Members of the club, Sajdak explained, create each unique arrangement with greens collected from their own property.
‘This year, we’re using a new product that keeps arrangements fresher longer,? she said. ‘We also had a training session at our November meeting, and invited a couple of professional flower arrangers to give lessons and instruction on what’s new this year. We came away with a lot of fresh ideas and new ways to look at things.?
Each year, she said, the club sells between 250-300 arrangements, as well as ‘hundreds and hundreds? of wreaths and roping.
This year, for the first time, members also offered pre-sale items to local restaurants, coffee shops and other businesses.
The Greens Market serves as the club’s principal fundraiser each year, with proceeds from the sale used to benefit the community through projects like the Independence Township Library Children’s Literary Garden, horticultural therapy programs at local nursing homes, environmental education programs in the elementary schools and college scholarships.
