When it comes to sun, sand, and surf in the summer, the more the merrier.
With the season in full swing, visitors to Green’s Park enjoy more of the good stuff amid recent renovations.
A beach expansion and new vending machines along with the Olympic-size sand volleyball court installed last year constitute the latest park improvements.
Lake Orion Village Manager Paul Zelenak said he hopes to have the vending machines stocked and working in time for the fireworks Friday.
The changes don’t stop there.
‘In the Parks and Recreation Master Plans at Green’s Park specifically, improved signage, improved landscaping work, and a pavilion are addressed,? Zelenak said. ‘We are in the process now of trying to rid the weeds by what is called a ‘beach bottom blanket? that would be installed on the west side of where the docks are.?
Park Manager Stan Ford recalled when park facilities consisted only of a park shed and two porta- johns.
‘The whole process has cleaned it up a lot,? Ford said. ‘It’s nice to have a waterfront and shelter when it rains.?
Green’s Park is open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with open swim beginning at noon during the week due to swim lessons conducted in the morning.
Park passes can be obtained at Village Hall on 37 E. Flint St.
They are available for village residents for $1, township residents for $25 and the rest of the public for $50.
