Bailey Lake Elementary students saluted veterans and active duty members of the military, many of whom have children at the school, with a Salute To The Armed Forces, Nov. 13.
The students welcomed U.S. Marines Jason Onitveros, combat vet and Bailey Lake dad, Lance Corporal Chambers, and Sergeant Joshua T. Fitzpatrick; from the Coast Guard, Petty Officer James Dixon, Seaman Michael Schneider, Command Senior Chief James E. Jones, and Bill Weiss; Air Force Captain Chris Plaltz and Tammy Lejack, veteran and Bailey Lake mom; Navy Lieutenant Michael Cullen and Julie Belliveau, Navy vet and Bailey Lake mom; and Army Specialist Angel Coon, National Guard and BLE mom, Specialist Matthue Maynor, who volunteered via video and BLE dad, Lee Zhang, president of the Student Veteran Association, and Staff Sergeant Ryan Nelson, Military Police and BLE dad. American Legion Post 63 Honor Guard presented a 21 gun salute and Taps.
Co-chair Marcelino Cabella, Physical Education teacher Kelly Woodworth, and Jesse Moyet led a Bulldog Boot Camp, a mini obstacle couse set up in the gym.
Moyet’s Detroit Apparel Factory also donated a Clarkston Love shirt to each service member and veteran.
Muriel and Terry Shelswel of Clarkston, Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Michigan, brought their military vehicles, a 1952 Willys M38A1 and Kaiser-Jeep M816.
Food and supplies were donated by Rudy’s Market, Ruby Tuesdays Clarkston, Gregg’s Gourmet, Clarkston Union, Tim Hortons, B-Zany, and Joe’s Army Navy Surplus and Camping
Parent volunteers included event Chair Andrea and Mark Beauchamp, co-chair Sara Hoyle, Kerri Kacanowski, Nikki Kurmanick, Kassie Scaglione, Julie Rinaldi, and Ashleigh Guidoux.
Guidoux also donated two shirts from her Love Clarkston Apparel to every BLE parent currently serving.
