A volunteer program seeking to give a very happy holiday season to low-income children in Oxford, Orion and Addison townships is seeking helpers who would like to ‘adopt? a child.
The AngelFISH holiday program is in its seventh year of assisting area children.
FISH is trying to match children in need with those willing to give.
Elizabeth Ballard, a volunteer with FISH, said with the slumping economy they anticipate a need to help out even more than the 200 children that were served last year.
Those who wish to become a donor and ‘adopt? a child may select an age or gender preference if they so desire. FISH, meanwhile, conducts in-person interviews verifying need and hope to be able to make the best ‘match? of a donor to a child.
In November, donors will receive information on their child’s clothing size along with a short list of gifts on their child’s ‘wish list?.
At that time, detailed information on the date, time, and place of drop-offs will be provided.
Gifts will need to be purchased by Dec. 11.
FISH makes contact with other local groups in an attempt to prevent recipients from receiving gifts from multiple agencies.
For more information or if you’d like to become a donor, please contact the FISH hotline at 248-693-0638. Ballard said that those who call will be contacted within a few days to discuss their participation and will get answers to any questions they might have.
