Goodrich – Non-profit 501(c)(3) groups in Atlas Township have only a few days to apply for United Way funds.
The Goodrich-Atlas Block Grant Committee will distribute applications to groups who contact them by July 11. Applications must be received by July 15.
The committee was informed June 28 that $5,813 is available this year for distribution among Atlas Township groups. The amount is based on United Way of Genesee County donations made’either directly or through payroll deductions’by Atlas Township residents.
The amount is $682 more than the 2004 grant, distributed last fall to senior citizens, the Goodrich Lions, firefighters, a local church gymnasium event, the historical society, a playground project, and a chamber of commerce community Christmas event.
Last year’s grant was the first received since 1997, due to activation of the local block grant committee, comprised of volunteer representatives from local businesses, clubs and organizations, children’s and youth proponents, schools, and senior citizens.
Groups considered normally request funds for ‘something that benefits youth or senior citizens at risk, or family-oriented’events, said committee chair Carol Powers.
For an application, call Powers at (810) 636-2917.
