With two straight shutouts in net for Clarkston’s hockey team, senior Adam Richards was an easy choice for Athlete of the Week.
The 2-0 win over Royal Oak on Jan. 26 and 4-0 victory over Troy on Jan. 28 were especially sweet for Richards because of the two losses they followed on Clarkston’s schedule.
‘The prior two games I felt I had let the team down and they had to carry me. In the week off I (reset) mentally. In the last two games I’ve thrown two shutouts, so that’s real nice,? Richards said.
Richards and neighbor and fellow teammate Matt Prasil began playing hockey together at the age of four. Since the age of five Richards has been on one travel team or another.
This is Richards third year on the CHS hockey team.
‘This year I get more intense and more competitive because last year I only played six game and this year I’ve played every single game,? Richards said.
He also played two years on the varsity football team.
Richards hopes to continue standing tall between the pipes after high school.
‘Right now I plan on hopefully playing in Junior A. I’ve been contacted by a couple of teams? Richards said of his plans after high school.
He plans on attending U of M Flint or MSU should he not play Junior A hockey, with finance being his focus.
A lifelong Clarkston resident, Richards? parents are Mark and Marsha.
