Athlete of the Week ? Joe Moran

For the second time this season, senior Joe Moran is the Athlete of the Week. The guard-forward led Clarkston to victories over Grand Blanc and Macomb Dakota en route to Clarkston’s fourth straight regional championship.
‘When a kid works as hard as he does it’s special,? Clarkston Coach Dan Fife said.
For the tournament Moran averaged 22.5 points per game and shot 57 percent from the field. He poured in 27 points in the district final on March 17 against Dakota and helped eliminate Grand Blanc on March 15 with 18 points. All told, Moran’s offensive production accounted for 39 percent of his team’s points during regionals.
‘I waited for this for three years. I played in the shadow of some great players, like Chris Johnston, Robbie Clark and Brad Goodman, and I’ve learned from the best coach in the state,? said Moran, who is a four-year varsity player.

Senior Joe Moran is the Athlete of the Week after, as he continued to shoulder the bulk of the scoring load for Clarkston’s basketball team.
Moran had 18 points in a loss to Pontiac Central on Jan. 17 and 22 in the Wolves? victory over Southfield Lathrup on Jan. 20.
‘I’m trying to get my shots where I can, obviously not having John (Kast) leaves some shots open and it hurts us. I have to take more of a leadership role,? Moran said.
To his coach Moran, a four-year varsity player and two year starter, is deserving of such a leadership role.
?(Moran) exemplifies what Clarkston basketball should be about,? Clarkston Coach Dan Fife said.
Moran started playing basketball in his youth at YMCA leagues and continued his hoops education in the McGrath league when he moved to Clarkston from Warren in third grade.
What struck Fife early about Moran early on is his dedication to the game.
‘At the time I thought I was having trouble getting kids to make a commitment to basketball. (Moran) would always be in the gym as an eighth grader. I would come up here after track meets and he would be in the gym working on his game,? Fife said.
When he is not fine tuning his jumper, Moran values time with his friends and the odd game of golf or poker.
Moran has been accepted to Michigan State University, where his two older sisters go to school. He is waiting to hear from the University of Michigan and still has to weigh his options as far as playing basketball in college goes.
He is interested in studying finance in college.
