Atlas, Goodrich OK stormwater contract

Storm water management in Genesee County is a joint effort of 17 municipalities. At last week’s meeting of the Atlas Township Board, trustees approved signing the storm water contract, subject to the approval of township attorney David Lattie.
Goodrich Village Council Members also approved adopting the contract, and will again allocate approximately $1,500 to join the consortium, said village administrator Jakki Sidge.
‘It will let us get away pretty inexpensively because of the (low) number of households,? said Sidge. ‘Other municipalities, because of cutbacks, are looking at having to do a special assessment, but $3 a household is something we can absorb.?
Atlas Township will pay an annual cost not to exceed $5,000 in quarterly installments.
‘We’ve already been hit for the first quarter share of $1,875,? said Atlas Township Supervisor Paul Amman.
The joint venture provides stormwater- related public education and participation. The contract also provides for location of illicit discharge detection and elimination, such as local sump pumps or eavestroughs that may be draining into stormwater.
Stormwater runoff control, post-stormwater runoff control and pollution prevention are also covered by the contract, said Lattie.
A roll call vote was taking at the Goodrich meeting, with council members approving the contract 3-0. Voting yes were councilpersons Angela Adamec and Jayme Simmonds, as well as village president Keith Walworth.
The contract was approved by all ayes at the Atlas Township meeting.
