Targeted
On Oct. 5, Brandon deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Honert Road for suspicious circumstances. The complainant said he owns five acres and was target shooting on his property when he heard four or five rapid fire shots from a rifle that sounded like they went over his and his girlfriend’s heads. He believes the shots came from the home of a neighbor, whom he’s had problems with in the past. He found bullet holes in the east side of his shed. The neighbor was interviewed and denied shooting or owning a gun. The neighbor said the complainant should not be able to target shoot on his property, when there is a gun range down the road. The case is open.
Duck, duck, drunk

As he approached the vehicle, a male subject ducked down in the driver’s seat. The deputy advised the man to put the car in park and turn off the ignition. The man exited the vehicle, with a strong odor of intoxicants coming from him. He initially gave the deputy a false identity before finally admitting who he was. The suspect said he’d had several beers at a party. A breath test had results of .16 percent blood alcohol content. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and giving false information to a police officer.
Wasn’t me
On Oct. 9, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to a vehicle crash at Perry Lake Road near Seymour Lake Road. The caller had heard a loud crash, a horn blaring and saw a male subject running away. The deputy found the vehicle against a large tree, with heavy front-end damage. The vehicle was discovered to be registered to a man who resides in the 5800 block of Oakhill Road. The deputy went to the home and observed a man walking toward the home from the direction of the crash. He had fresh injuries to his mouth, face, lip and chin, which were bloody and swollen. He smelled strongly of intoxicants, had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, soiled clothes and twigs in his hair. He said he didn’t have a license and his friend was driving. He then changed his story and said he didn’t know who was driving, but it wasn’t him. He said he’d had three beers at one bar and four at another. He finally said he didn’t know what happened. He refused a breath test and the Brandon Fire Department was called to administer treatment. He was taken to North Oakland Medical Center for treatment and a blood draw and was given warrants for operating while intoxicated–second offense, driving while license suspended’third offense, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
