Award from vets was a great surprise

I have to admit they got me.
‘They? being all the fine folks at American Legion Post 108 and my wife Connie, who was in on it.
On Sunday afternoon, I was covering the Post’s annual recognition ceremony for local public safety personnel (see Page 2). Toward the end of the event, something happened that took me completely by surprise ? I was called to the stage.
Legion Auxiliary President Pat Bliss and Legion jack-of-all-trades Jim Parkhurst presented me with a certificate and a handsome plaque. The plaque reads, ‘Presented for your hard work, dedicated support, services to our community and devotion to veterans. We thank you!!?
I was stunned. I am extremely grateful and humbled, but I’m still stunned. To be recognized by a community group is always a great honor. To be recognized by veterans leaves me speechless.
While I immensely enjoy what I do for a living, it doesn’t even begin to compare to the deeds, the sacrifices and the courage of those who have protected and served our country. To be thanked by these folks is . . . well, there really are no words.
All I can say is thank you ? and again, you got me, but I don’t mind a bit.
