Baker named new administrator

Goodrich- In January, Goodrich High School will lose a vibrant science teacher.
And gain a new administrator.
Elizabeth Baker, who’s taught GHS science the past four years, will step into the role of assistant principal Jan. 17, 2005, following principal Kenneth Andrzejewski’s retirement.
Baker will assist newly-hired principal David St. Aubin in overseeing the school.
‘I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to represent the building in this position,? Baker said. ‘I genuinely care about the students that go to this school.?
Baker,33, replaces former assistant principal Al Martus, who resigned from the post this year, but remains visible as athletic director.
As assistant principal, Baker is responsible for student discipline and behavior, attendance, supervising extracurricular activities, groups, and clubs, coordinating curriculum with state standards, monitoring teacher progress, coordinating the Michigan Education Assessment Program, and other
duties.
Baker was approved for the position after the Goodrich Board of Education publicly interviewed three finalists in its Nov. 22 meeting.
‘I feel that she’s going to do a fantastic job. She comes in with a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of competence,? said St. Aubin. ‘She’s more than just a
disciplinarian.?
‘I’m looking forward to working with him,? said Baker, ‘so every student to leave this building knows that the educators and administrators have a personal commitment of time, effort, and resources to help them develop whatever their dream happens to be.?
A teacher who’s attached to the students in her classes, the move will be bittersweet, but Baker is ‘chomping at the bit? to start interacting with students beyond the freshman year.
A native of Laingsburg, Mich., Baker, an avid Spartan fan’earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Michigan State University. She taught six years in the Owosso district before coming to Goodrich.
Currently, Baker lives in Davison.
In addition to her fianc? and a ‘big fat bulldog named Sophie,? Baker’s primary interests are running and reading.
