The sound of thundering drums and brass horns echoed through the Performing Arts Center Monday evening as the Oxford High School Marching Band gave its final show of the season and ended things on a high note.
Although the 125-member band’s competitive record was nothing to write home about this season, Band Director Jim Gibbons had nothing but praise for his students.
‘Regardless of the scores, the thing that I’m very proud of is that I felt, as the season went on, the band got better and better, which was the goal,? he told the crowd of families in the audience.
This year, the band faced ‘much tougher standards and much tougher expectations? as it performed at various competitions in Novi, Clarkston and Linden high schools.
‘We set a higher bar for ourselves than we’ve ever set before,? Gibbons said. ‘As a result, we go out and we make our band better from a marching standpoint and from a musical standpoint.?
As part of the marching band’s final performance, the following seniors were recognized ? Colleen Ahlers, Rachael Baumgartner, Katie Brady, Christian Brendel, Sarah Decker, Racheal Dover, Ricky Hernandez, Taylor Holtshouser, Allison Kemp, Ben Lemanski, Emily Lyon, Sami Matsumoto, Samantha McKenzie, Rhonda Pendred, Mike Pointe, Elizabeth Strzelecki, Christina Szumlinski, Jennifer Thompson, Kaitlin Tincknell, Anna Tomaka, Katrina Tosill, Katie Tuski, Kaitlin Ufolla, Chantle Vandervoort, Melissa Walker, Kristina Woehlke and Tabitha Wrobel.
