Bastian seeks another term as clerk

Orion Township Clerk Jill Bastian is making it official; she’s running for reelection for another four year term. The township clerk is one of three full-time elected positions in the township and has responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the clerk’s office, as well as a voting position on the seven-member township board of trustees.
Bastian is using the same slogan, ‘your working township clerk,? that she used when she was first elected to office in 1996. She, with the assistance of her staff, promises to continue the high-quality and efficient work of records management, administration of elections, and secretary to the board of trustees.
Currently recovering from treatment for breast cancer diagnosed in 2003, Bastian feels she is up to any challenges which may present themselves.
She said Orion Township continues to be responsible to its residents and businesses, while at the same time planning for growth and working with neighboring communities on issues of mutual concern, such as traffic management, water quality and preservation of natural resources.
Bastian’s been active in the community since 1978, working on safety paths, library used book sales, election inspector, senior transportation program and was a parent representative on a school improvement committee.
She’s organized the township’s household hazardous waste days, is an advocate of widening Baldwin Road and implementing the township Master Plan and a proponent of spending tax dollars wisely.
Bastian said she enjoys her job as township clerk, and, with nearly eight years of experience, it’s one of the main reasons she wants to continue her service to the public for another four years.
