Ortonville — The Battle of the Books is on at the Brandon Township Public Library.
On Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m., the BTPL, 304 South St., will host the orientation for their annual Battle of the Books for teams of three to five fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. There is a limit of 10 teams.
“Battle of the Books builds good teamwork skills, creativity and encourages students to read books they may not have otherwise read,” said Fran Hotchkiss, outreach liaison librarian.
At orientation, teams will be given the rules of play and a set of the Battle Books to check out. Over the following four months, the students will read “Because of Winn Dixie” by Kate DiCamillo, “Boys in the Boat” by Daniel Brown, “Chocolate Fever” by Robert Smith, and “Punished” by David Lubar.
After reading all four books, teams will compete on May 5 at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored and hosted by the Friends of the Brandon Township Public Library.
