Bell is ‘Coach of the Year’ for regional gridders

Lake Orion High School Varsity Football Head Coach Chris Bell was recently honored as Regional Coach of the Year, as the football team held its post-season awards.
Senior Joel Malkasian, an All-State Dream Team wide receiver holding school records for career receptions, yards and touchdowns, has been selected to play in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association All-Star Game. The game is to be played in July at Michigan State University.
Malkasian is the sixth player in Lake Orion history to play in the game and the first since Matt George made the team following the 2000 season.
Senior Kris Wellman was named Academic All-State Special Mention. Wellman is an All-League performer as a defensive lineman, and currently carries a 3.8 grade point average.
The 2002 Lake Orion varsity team was named an Honorable Mention Academic All-State Football Team. This is the fourth such honor in the past five years for the Dragons.
