Bertolini advances to state Geography Bee

Nine students made it to the final round of the 2011 National Geographic Bee School Competition at Sashabaw Middle School.
Only Steven Bertolini walked away as the winner after correctly answering two of the three questions in the championship round on Jan. 14.
Ryan Anderson was the runner-up after getting one answer wrong.
The questions for the championship round were: Africa’s highest peak is a part of a national park in Tanzania, name the mountain, (Kilimanjaro); Tet is an important holiday celebrating the new year in what country west of the Gulf of Tonkin, (Vietnam); Santa Ana is a major coffee-producing city that shares its name with a nearby volcanic peak in which Central American country, (El Salvador.)
Bertolini advances to the state competition and will take a written exam. Up to 100 of the top scorers in the state will compete in the Michigan Bee on April 1.
The national competition is May 24.
