Brandon Twp.- Sold.
By a 6-0 vote on Monday night, the Brandon School Board of Education accepted an offer from local business owner Barry Bass to purchase the Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School building. School board vice-president Bob Eisiminger abstained from the vote since he is a member of the Bridgewood Church, which also bid on the purchase of the building.
The original vote split the board, with trustees Kevin McClellan, Lisa Kavalhuna and treasurer Debra Brady in favor of BLB enterprises, owned by local business man Barry Bass, and president Diane Salter, secretary Marianne Dwyer and trustee John Chartier voting for Bridgewood Church.
After about twenty minutes of deliberation and asking questions of both Bass and a representative of Bridgewood Church, the board was able to come to a unanimous decision to accept the offer for $750,000.
“We’re really thinking about what is best for the community,” said Salter.
The plan BLB Enterprises has for the building is a sports complex and restaurant. Bass explained that there would be indoor soccer, batting cages, and plenty of other places to practice and play sports during off seasons, weekends, summer vacation and also makes this facility available for use of travel sports teams.
In addition to the facility itself, the complex will create jobs in the community, as well as be on the tax bracket, which will give back to the community and the school alike.
“I would think we’d be up and running by next fall or winter,” said Bass. “I’m here for the community.”
The Brandon Fletcher Intermediate school has been closed since the end of the 2016-2017 school year, and the building has been for sale and brought in a lot of interest for the purchase.
