BHS icers capture Flint Metro opener

After a tough loss to Davison, the Brandon varsity hockey team bounced back in fine fashion.
In Brandon’s Flint Metro League opener, the line of Kyle Doan, Matt Cinader and Nick Foren accounted for three of Brandon’s goals as the Blackhawks defeated Fenton 5-2 in a Nov. 30 contest at the Polar Palace in Lapeer.
Doan scored two goals and added one assist, while Cinader had one goal and two assists and Foren notched three assists. The Blackhawks are now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The Blackhawks asserted themselves through the course of the game, scoring three goals in the first period and two in the second. By the time Fenton scored their two goals in the third period, it was too little, too late.
Doan got things off to a quick start for the Blackhawks, scoring just 1:35 into the game on assists from Cinader and Foren. About 1-1/2 minutes later, Blake McLellan increased the Blackhawks? lead to 2-0 on assists from Troy Nuccio and Tony Kraydich.
Sean Doyle wrapped up the Blackhawks? scoring in the first period on assists from Ryan Doyle and Doug Hammond, as Brandon took a 3-0 lead after the first period.
After the first period, Fenton coach Matt Kursniak replaced starting goalie Brett St. John with backup Matt Maksymowski. However, the Blackhawks continued their offensive attack in the second period.
Cinader tallied a goal with 11:40 left in the second period on assists from Doan and Foren, then Doan notched his second goal of the game with 5:17 left in the second period on assists from Cinader and Foren, wrapping up the Blackhawks? scoring.
The Tigers scored their two goals when Brandon had the game well in hand. Andy Allen scored Fenton’s first goal of the game with 5:27 left in the third on assists from St. John and Josh Williams. Just 20 seconds later, the Tigers scored their other goal of the game, as Alex Delecki found the net on assists from Peter Renaud and Nik Klopf.
