Big prizes highlight Chamber Golf Classic

By nabbing five hole-in-one prize sponsorships the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce outdid themselves for their 18th annual Golf Classic on June 30 at Liberty Golf Course.
At the Classic, one sweet stroke at predetermined par-three holes can net a skilled (lucky) golfer quite the nice prize. The five hole-in-one rewards, each one tied to a specific par three, include: a new Harley Davidson motorcycle, a two-year lease on a Jeep Liberty from Clarkston Chrysler Jeep Eagle, a $10,000 shopping spree at Tierra’s Fine Jewelers or one of two trips to Australia from Outback Steakhouse.
‘We always have something new and exciting. Our sponsors make sure of that,? said Terri Bendes, Event Enthusiast/Planner with the Chamber. ‘We are really crossing our fingers because we want to give one of these great prizes away.?
To ensure no golfer’s growling stomach is to blame for a poor four-person team score, breakfast will be served beforehand, lunch provided on the turn and a buffet offered at the close of the day.
‘When people stop at the turn (for lunch), they will be networking. (This) is a nice way to build camaraderie and get to know your fellow chamber members,? said Bendes.
For people whose putter tends to shake when they are craving something sweet, GMAC Mortgage is setting up an ice cream stand and Best Western will sponsor a chocolate fountain. Best Western will also hand out suite gift certificates.
‘This is really a fun day of not working. A fun day of community with fellow chamber members,? said Bendes.
The pre-golf massages added to last year’s event are expanded this year.
‘Last year, the masseuses were such a big hit they will be back, but they will also be available at the end of the day this year,? said Bendes.
Also included with the $150 golf ticket are gift bags and golf prizes. Membership in the Chamber is not required to participate in the Golf Classic.
‘When a (nonmember) comes out to the golf outing, they see that we are a quality organization,? said Bendes.
According to a Chamber press release, nearly one-third of the organization’s operational funding is derived from the Golf Classic.
