Birthday girl turns 104

Ruby Mansfield (Green) has never been in the newspaper before and laughed when told she would be in it now.
She celebrated her 104th birthday, Oct. 22, an event of some note at Heather Pines Home in Independence Township.
“In all the 20 years we have been in business this is the first time I have had a resident turning 104,” said Jill Dixon, administrator.
Mansfield moved into the adult care center last August from her home on Overlook Drive in Clarkston, where she had lived since 1942.
To what does she attribute her long life?
“I was a good girl,” Mansfield said. “No bad habits, no smoking, no drinking, nothing like that.”
She was born in Missouri n Oct. 22, 1910. She married Estell McGhee, and later remarried, to Everett Mansfield. She worked as an administrative secretary at General Motors until she retired in the late 1960s, and also as a part time hair dresser.
She has a son, Jack, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and 12 great great grand children.
