Blackhawk cagers fall to Clarkston

BRANDON- The Brandon Blackhawks put up a good fight throughout their season. Proof is in their second place Metro League finish, behind number one Lapeer East.
With that record, they went into the district playoffs strong, easily defeating Oxford in round one, before downing the Cousirs of Waterford Mott in round two.
The battle against Mott was a tough one, which nearly ended in defeat for the Blackhawks, before they pulled out a 54-51 victory.
In the Class A tournament, three Brandon players scored double-digits, led by Nick Emery with 19 points, including four 3-point shots. Tom Mahaffy and Tom Schaefer each recorded 12 points for the Blackhawks, while Nate Perry added seven.
After the win, the Brandon squad knew they were in for a battle in Saturday’s final round. In the March 8 game, the Blackhawks took on the Clarkston Wolves and suffered a disappointing lose.
With the absence of their leading scorer, Mitch Brady, Brandon had battle with even more intensity than usual. Unfortunately, they were bested 52-38 by the Wolves.
In the defeat, Schaefer led the fray taking 11 points for the Blackhawks, including three 3-pointers. Mahaffy added nine points to the board, while Emery put up seven and Perry tallied six. Gjon Nicaj put up five points. Mahaffy, Perry, Emery and Nicaj each record 3-point shots in the game.
Brandon ended their season 14-9 overall, with a second place finish in their first season in the Flint Metro League.
