Brandon Twp. — Both teams appeared pretty even, but when it was all said and done, the Blue Devils scored the go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter on a one-yard scamper by Camden Fray to earn the 28-22 victory.
The Blackhawks trailed 14-7 at half and tied the game in the third quarter 14-14.
In the fourth quarter the Blue Devils pulled ahead with a TD, and extra-point kick by Charlie Rubey, Brandon trailed 28-20 with just 2:44 remaining.
Brandon did drive the ball to the Lake Fenton side of the field, but a Murphy Conley interception ended the drive, giving the Blue Devils the ball late. Lake Fenton killed the rest of the clock, running the ball to the end zone and conceded a safety in order to take the final second off the clock. Lake Fenton won 28-22.
“It was a tough loss,” said Head Coach Brad Zube, now 2-2 on the season. “It was a close game. We still need to get better in all three phases of the game. Lance Briolat and Luke Hanson played their hearts out for us on both sides of the ball on Friday night.”
The Blackhawks need to regroup and get ready for homecoming on Friday, he added.
The Blackhawks had a balanced attack with 149 yards in the air and 140 yards on the ground for 289 yards of total offense.
BHS Lance Briolat completed seven passes on 15 attempts and rushed six times for 37 yards and a TD. BHS Damian Watton had 83 all purpose yards and one TD, BHS Demetri McNeir tallied 67 all purpose yards and one TD, while BHS Luke Hanson had 64 all purpose yards.
On defense BHS Al Rowe had 11 tackles, BHS Luke Hanson 11 Tackles one Interception and BHS Kurt Briolat had 10 tackles. BHS Nate Elowski tallied 2 of 3 extra-points (1 blocked).
