Block grant funding

Clarkston City Council voted unanimously, Nov. 9, to award $6,000 in Community Development Block Grants to Clarkston Area Youth Assistance.
The money, provided by the federal government, will be used to provide scholarships to low-income, at-risk youth to skill-building, football, band, and other camps, said Craig Hamilton, CAYA president.
The city’s block grant funds were previously split between youth assistance and Independence Township Senior Center. The senior center received the city’s funds last year.
