Friends of the Independence Township Senior Center invite the community to Bucks for Buses has Gone Bocce at Palazzo di Bocce, 4291 Lapeer Road in Orion, Thursday, Sept. 22, 6-9 p.m.
The evening includes a buffet dinner, auction and Bocce play. Tickets are $50 and a portion of the ticket is tax deductable.
Dr. Michael Baker, internist with Clarkston Medical Group and musician, will provide the music for the evening in a coffeehouse style. Baker is an accomplished guitarist with diverse music interests, but favors the Allman Brother band and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Baker has shared his talents for Bucks for Buses event for the past three years
A penthouse suite with 12 tickets and parking passes to a Pistons game at the Palace was donated by Palace Entertainment and will be one of the auction items.
‘Bucks for Buses is designed to raise funds for the Senior Center, which transports seniors and those with disabilities to doctor appointments, grocery stores, jobs, pharmacies and kidney dialysis,? said Lois Seddon, president of the Friends? group.
For more information on the Bucks for Buses has Gone Bocce, call the Senior Center at 248-625-8231. Tckets are available at the center at 6000 Clarkston Road in Clintonwood Park. Funds raised will supplement transportation costs for seniors in Independence and Springfield townships and Clarkston.
‘Senior transportation is a crucial service to this community,” said Ken Elwert, director of Parks and Recreation who oversees the Senior Center. “Times are tough and people are using the service more. We need funds to cover the increasing use and operating costs.”
Last year, the center provided over 4,000 rides, with senior vans and buses logging 4,500 miles each month transporting seniors and individuals with disabilities to appointments and grocery shopping in the community, said Senior Coordinator Barbara Rollin.
Senior center buses which are funded through federal grants, riders? fees, and township funds. They operate Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Seniors and residents with disabilities qualify to use the bus service. Buses goes anywhere in Clarkston, Independence and Springfield townships, as well as Meijers and Great Lakes Crossing mall on Tuesdays for a $3 donation each way.
Trips to Doctors? Hospital , Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and Pontiac St. Joseph’s Hospital are available for $5 each way. Residents who use a wheel chair can be transported but they need to notify the center when making reservations.
All reservations must be made at least one day in advance.
