Brandon Twp.- A bomb threat received at Brandon High School shortly before 1 p.m., Thursday, forced the evacuation of the school.
School officials immediately locked down the school, said Sgt. Mike Searing of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon substation. Shortly thereafter, students were bussed home or to Brandon Middle School. Others used their own transportation to leave.
Multiple K-9 units from OCSO and other assisting agencies cleared the school by 3:30 p.m. and the Ortonville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo was to continue as planned that evening. School was to be open Friday with extra security.
‘It was an unfounded threat,? said Searing. ‘There were no other threats.Everything went smoothly and the school and deputies worked well together.?
BHS senior Megan Arnold said she was in the library during fifth hour when an announcement came over the PA system that the school was being locked down.
‘I thought at first it was a drill, but it wasn’t,? said Arnold, who noted the school had a lockdown drill the day before.
Michael Ferguson, Brandon High School principal, said he was impressed with the students and sheriff’s department during the situation. In 13 years at BHS, Ferguson said there have been three other bomb threats. He warned that any student that makes threats against the school will be expelled and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The threat is continuing to be investigated. Anyone with information can call 1- (888) TURN-1-IN.
