The old Booster Club tent that had to be put up for concessions before each sporting event at Oxford High School will never have to be put up again.
?(Senior) Russ Luxton had an idea to get rid of the old, ripping tent and put up a more permanent building and the rest of the Booster Club thought it was a wonderful idea,? said J.R. Lafnear, a Booster Club volunteer.
The project to build a new gazebo-type concession stand is being paid for by the Booster Club, not the school district.
Though the final numbers are not in yet, they are confident they will come reasonably close to their budget of $5,000.
Oxford businesses either donated their labor, such as the plans and drawings from Jeff Ziegelbaur, or they are coming at a great discount, like Valley Building’s labor.
‘We are very grateful for all the help that we have received from Siding World, Valleys Building, Four Star Roofing, Sealed-Tight, Jeff Ziegelbaur and Nick Groves,? said Lafnear.
One name Lafnear didn’t want to forget was Nick Groves, of Groves True Value Hardware, because he got the Booster Club a large discount on the wood.
The Booster gazebo, made out of luminescent wood, will be located on the home side of the stadium.
It will sell the same items the other stand sold, but will be more convenient for the volunteers.
The project will be done before the Blue and Gold game on Saturday, August 11.
‘We are really happy that the Booster Club was able to accomplish such a big task,? said Lafnear.
