The Wolves are heading off to state finals in Battle Creek this Saturday after their showing at their regional meet last week.
The Clarkston Boys Varsity Bowling team started the momentum last Friday by winning the MHSAA Division 1, Region 3 Championship at Drakeshire Lanes – qualifying them for the finals.
Eric Wagner and Kyle Kirby had the high scores for the day. Wagner had a 632 series and Kirby had a 585 series.
“Conditions on the lanes were tough with the middle of the road pattern,” said Alan Pittman, assistant coach. “Scores were low and shot making was at a premium.”
The girls team finished in fourth place, missing third place to qualify for the finals by 42 pins.
“It was a tough loss for the girls considering they won the regionals just a year ago,” Pittman added.
Stephanie Lavely made it up to the team by qualifying for a trip to Battle Creek in the singles event. She made sixth place at the Saturday event. She will also bowl on Saturday.
Tyler Hanscak and Chris Gemborys were close to qualify for the boys team but finished in 19th and 25th place.
The boys finished their regular season as OAA Red champions while four members from the boys varsity team and two members of the girls varsity team received their All-Conference medals at their league meet, Feb. 18.
The first team All-Conference honors went to Wagner with a second overall high average at 213 in the entire conference and Lavely. She was also second overall with the highest average with a 194.
Second team All-Conference honors were Kirby, season average of 208; Hancsak, season average of 205; Gemborys, season average of 204; and Erika Nowak, season average of 176.
During the conference meet the boys took on Berkley, winning the first match and losing the second match. The third match was close to see who would move on to the championship round. The Wolves lost by eight points. They moved to the last match to take on Lake Orion. They swept the first two games to finish in third place.
The Lady Wolves also qualified after beating North Farmington and Oxford. They moved on the championship game against Lake Orion. They won the first game and lost the next two to finish in second place.
