Boys baseball continues winning record

The dragons of baseball continued their winning record last week with a pair of wins over the highlanders of Rochester Adams High School.
The Dragons faced the team on Orion turf May 3 and took both games in the double header. Junior Nick Deeg had an RBI in the first game and with the dragons going into the fourth inning leading 4-0, it was all Adams could do to make one run, finishing the game 4-1. Sophomore Brad Schaenzer rebounded from a dip in the final inning to finish with 14 strikeouts.
The second game saw sophomore Conner Grant his two RBIs while junior Ryan Lambrecht managed three hits. Deeg pitched the game junior shortstop Nick Vogelmeier was replaced by Grant after an injury. Grant performed well according to Head Coach Andy Schramek.
The final score was 9-2 in the second game, bringing Orion’s OAA Red record to 8-1 with 16-7 overall.
The boys played again in a tournament on the weekend and while they beat their three opponents – Woodhaven 6-3, Farmington 7-6 and Harrison 9-0 – they let in too many runs and finished third overall.
Next up are Rochester’s Falcons today (May 9) at 4 p.m. in Rochester. Schramek said they had played the team twice already. He added while the team made mistakes last time around, he believes they will probably be a greater challenge today.
‘They’re a good team but last time we beat them pretty good,? he said. ‘They made mistakes and we capitalized. Still it was early in the season. For us to be successful, we have to pitch well and we have to catch and throw the ball well. The one game we lost we just didn’t do those things and we lost. We cannot do that again.?
