Boys track crush opponents

The year is looking bright for the boys track team as the skill and talent of a growing LOHS program has come together with a relative slump in the league.
This was evident on April 18 in Lake Orion when the Lake Orion crushed Oxford 106 to 22.
‘The league is little down this year and we’re way up,? said Head Coach Stan Ford. ‘The duel meets have been easier for us but the weekend invitationals have been where the challenge is.?
Senior Aaron Kaufman came from behind to win the 1,600m run, breaking his personal record with a 10 second run. Senior David Diaz won the 400m dash with a team best of 50.8 sec and was also part of the winning team on the 3,200m and 1,600m relays. Senior Charlie Maurer earned first place in the 110m hurdles, senior T.J. Carey posted a two minute 800m run, sophomore Corey Ester won the 200m and was also part of the winning 800m and 1600m relays.
Sophomore Chris Leigh won the 100m Dash and senior Davis Rossman led the throwers in a sweep of the discus event. Rossman also won the Shot Put.
The boys played again in an invitational on April 21 at Brandon High School, where they managed to take home first place with 95 points.
Ford said this year’s depth and balance was evident in the Dragon’s performance.
‘Running without two of our top sprinters, we had to adjust our line-up and allow some others the chance to contribute,? he said.
Freshman Matt Krause filled in on the 800m and 400m relays and helped them finish third and second respectively. Senior hurdler Dashawm Tolbert filled in on the 800m relay and sprint medley relay which also finished third. The distance runners had some ‘outstanding performances? to help score points.
Carey won the 3,200m run in a meet record time of 9:35.6 while junior David Arnez, senior George Modrak and Diaz were part of a team that produced a new distance medley relay team LOHS record of 10:45.2. Senior Ryan Singles teamed up with those three on the winning 3,200m relay team.
The long jump relay of sophomore Zach Arnold and senior Alex Roberts also finished in first place.
‘Four first places and three meet record proved the caliber of our performances today,? added Ford.
